I was thrilled to receive this email from one of our clients, Five Star Events, located in Calgary, Alberta.

Hi Trina,

I just wanted to write a short note to let you know how thrilled I am with the work you have done for Five Star Events website. Although I hired you only to do SEO, I feel like you’ve gone so far above and beyond your role as my SEO advisor in recommending not only SEO related changes to my website, but making administrative recommendations and changes as well – THANK YOU!

The results are starting to come in. I frequently ask new customers how they found me, and if it isn’t from a referral, they “always” tell me that they found me online through a google search. This is good news for me!
And, enquiries are coming in from all lines of business, from corporate events to the decor. And, they are telling me that they are searching me from very different key words, so that tells me that you have done the job!

I also recently landed a new corporate client, from Toronto, who was searching for a corporate event planner. She told me that when she found my website and learned that I do “corporate events” (and not only weddings), she was impressed. She complimented the site too!

Thanks again Trina – I appreciate all the work you have done for me, and would definitely recommend you (and have already) to anyone looking for SEO services – because you have given me RESULTS!

With kind regards,

Pam McCarthy

Web Warrior Marketing – 5 Reasons to Start a Blog

5. To Promote your Business – a blog is a “voice” to your current customers as well as potential customers. If you keep yourself top of mind throughout the year, then you will be top of mind to people when they have a need for your product or service.

4. To be a Helpful Resource – if you know a lot about a topic, and are able to provide useful information to people, they will start to follow your blog, possibly let others know about it, and you may even start being recognized as an expert in the field of whatever you are blogging about. If your goal is to “get known”, it can give you a lot of credibility if you can show people that you really know what you are talking about…especially if you are able to share your own experiences that they can relate to…and comment on with their experiences.

3. To Make Connections – Are you really interested in something that maybe no one else you know is interested in? This is a great way to connect with others who share your interests from all over the world. And hey, if you are looking to grow your Facebook friends, this is a great way to start adding people! This is also a great way to stay connected with friends and family – all too often it is easy to lose touch. Let people know about your blog and ask them to follow it!

2. For a Hobby – have you ever been asked by people “What are your hobbies?” only to sit there and not have much to say? This is a great way to spend your time (a good alternative from just sitting in front of the TV) – not to mention great learning – and adding value to others at the same time. Have fun and be creative – the more interesting you are, the more people will like your blog, and your popularity will rise.

1. Because it is 2010…isn’t everyone supposed to be Blogging, Facebooking, and Twittering?

At Web Warrior Marketing, our primary focus is SEO and driving traffic to websites.

1. Get a Website! Companies without a website in this day and age are falling behind. People use the Internet to search online for products and services. Do not rely on a costly ad in the Yellow Pages to make you competitive in this marketplace. If you don’t have a website, you are giving away all of your potential online business to your competition who does have a website.

2. Optimize Your Website with SEO services through a company like Web Warrior Marketing. A nice website is a great start, but without search engine optimization, you will not get found via keyword phrases relevant to your type of business and location. For example, if you are a catering company in Vancouver, you would want to pop up in Google when someone typed in a phrase such as “Catering Vancouver”.

3. Place an Offer or Announce a Special in Every Piece of Advertising. Give people a reason to try you out, instead of going back to the regular, well known business just because they have a more established brand name. Show potential customers the benefits of working with you. Add a time limit to your offer – this will enable you to measure success of the ad in a specific amount of time, as well as get people moving quicker!

4. Ad Size – When is the last time you read a flyer full of text? Realistically, these usually end up in the recycling bin. Focus on your main message, call to action, brand recognition…and include an offer. This can be much more effective than bombarding people with too much info. People don’t have time these days…let alone to read pages and pages of ads or flyers. This can also save you money – better to have more smaller ads or promotional pieces…rather than use up your whole budget on one or two.

5. Cross Promote with Other Businesses Relevant to Your Business – help each other. If you have a client and they need a service, they are likely going to trust someone who you refer to them, rather than just picking some random company…and vice versa. Plus, you help someone, they will help you. Establish these networks and your business will grow.

For starters, if you are not familiar with these acronyms, SEO = search engine optimization and SEM = search engine marketing. Are they the same thing? No.

If you buy Google Adwords for example, this is considered paid or sponsored advertising. These are the ads that appear along the top and the sides of the screen when you do a search. This is a form of search engine marketing.

All of the other listings that come up on the page each time you do a search (10 spots per page) are referred to as organic or natural search results. These results are achieved through search engine optimization or website optimization and are seen as more “trusted” than the paid results that come up. Companies that have SEO get better results overall if their website is optimized, rather than just relying on paid ads.

Paid ad campaigns are controlled by the advertiser. The advertiser decides how much they want to spend per day, when they want the ads to run, the maximum cost per click they are willing to spend, and the keywords they want to target (keywords that they want their ads to pop up when someone types them into a search engine). Paid ads can be beneficial to those who have not invested in SEO…or if they just began optimizing their website. They can help increase your traffic and visibility…but depending on which industry you are in and how competitive the phrases are that you are targeting, it can become very expensive. Plus, when you stop running these ads, your traffic and visibility will disappear as well.

In my opinion, every SEM campaign needs to also have SEO. Paid ads should be used to compliment SEO – not be the sole way of marketing your business online. Bottom line, if you are going to fork out a bunch of money for a paid campaign, don’t ignore SEO. SEO should be the first priority in promoting your website. Then, if you want to add SEM into the mix, they can work hand in hand together, and you can choose to run paid campaigns whenever you want and not have to worry about losing visibility every time your paid budget runs dry.

It seems as though people don’t have time for anything these days. Remember dial-up Internet? Imagine how frustrating it would be to go from high-speed Internet to turtle-slow speed? It’s the same idea when it comes to the load time of your website – when a user gets to your website, they want to see it instantly…waiting for 10 seconds can be 10 seconds too long and you could lose that potential customer because they will be onto the next website that loads quicker.

Here are some factors when it comes to the speed at which your website loads:

• Size of Images – files should be shrunk with an image program before being saved to the server
• Code – Back-end coding that is clunky or awkward
• Number of “things” on a page such as videos – large video files take a long time to download, especially if they are quite large
• Performance of the user’s computer – using a speedy new computer is great – but use an older one, and it can be a painful waiting process – so slow! Now imagine loading a website with large image files and videos etc. You wouldn’t stay on a site like that, and your customer won’t either.

Less is more can be taken into account here – of course you don’t want a boring website just so that it loads fast…but make sure you need those extra bells and whistles before you add them to your design.

So in addition to having a great website, you need visitors to go along with that. Contact our Vancouver website marketing company today for a FREE website consultation as to how we can increase your traffic. www.webwarriormarketing.com

Millions of people have personal facebook accounts – but facebook can be used for so much more than just connecting with friends, posting vacation photos, or making plans for the weekend. It can be a very effective tool for your business too!

Here are 5 Tips for using Facebook for your Business as part of your Internet marketing strategy:

1. Complete all of the details in your business account profile – people perceive businesses as more credible and trustworthy if you have an address, phone number, contact information, etc.

2. Post professional business photos – not ones you took for your last trip to Mexico or your latest weekend adventure. Photos of team building activities and corporate events are great though, and can even be good for public relations if your event involved doing something to help the community or a charity.

3. Add a facebook icon to your website that links directly to your business page. You can also add a link to your email signature.

4. Post “What’s Happening” on your facebook wall including current projects and/or partnerships

5. Offer discounts to your facebook fans – reward them with exclusive offers!

At Web Warrior Marketing, we will help you get your business set-up on facebook as part of our website marketing packages. Contact us for a FREE website consultation today as to how we can increase your online visibility!

There are so many possibilities when it comes to Twitter! As we have said before, Twitter is not just about promoting your company – you should follow the 80/20 rule. Tweet about your company about 20% of the time and tweet other things 80% of the time. (You thought it would be the other way around, didn’t you?)

If you bought a magazine and it was 80% advertisments and only 20% articles, would you be interested in buying in the next month? Not likely.

Similar to Twitter – you are going to be more interested in following other companies on Twitter if they are posting useful, fun, informative messages, rather than suffocating you with their products and services.

When it comes to Twitter, be creative…if you think of something you want to Tweet, ask yourself if you would be interested in it if someone else posted it. If yes, then it is a good Tweet!

Twitter is always about the latest news…if you are seen as someone who posts news and events as they happen, people will notice this and see you as a good news source.

Keep it fun, but professional! You are representing your company and possibly attracting new business – make a good impression!

Does your company have a Twitter page…only it doesn’t get updated very often? Twitter is all about posting Tweets on a regular basis – if you are active and presenting interesting information, you will get more followers and your time will be put to good use.

Here are 3 ways to keep your Twitter page FRESH and ACTIVE:

(1) HOLD CONTESTS—People love the chance to win things as we all know! Your contest could be for a product or service. Get people to Tweet the details of the contest each day to be eligible to win…which has the potential to create a ton of buzz about your company!

(2) PROMOTE SALES – People love to get a good bargain and if you are offering one, they are likely to choose you over one of your competitors! If you have an online store, Tweet the discount PROMO CODE that people would have to enter on your website when checking out to get the discount.

(3) ANNOUNCE SPECIAL EVENTS – is your company doing something special in the community? Tweet about it! This can also get you some good PR along the way. Is your company having a grand opening for a new location? Tell people about it – get them excited to be one of your first customers!

If you are tracking your website with software like Google Analytics, you will see “Bounce Rate”. It is shown as a %. This means that on a specific page (or a general average for the whole website) that number of people who enter your website, leave without going to a second page. So, the lower the bounce rate, the better! Now, it is hard to get a very low bounce rate, but if you have one of 20% or lower, you are doing very good. This means that only 1 out of every 5 people leave without going to a second page.

How can you lower your bounce rate? Well, this comes back to the importance of having a nice looking, well-structured website. Yes, search engine optimization services can get you the traffic – but if people don’t like what they land on, they will leave…and hence, you will not get the number of conversions you may anticipate.

So aside from having a user-friendly website, other things you can do include making changes to get your visitors engaged such as adding videos, getting visitors to sign up for a newsletter, promotions, calls to action (Buy Now!…Call Now!…Shop Now!).

Plus, if your bounce rate is lower, this will help you with rankings too…so, the lesson of the day is: Go to your website, ask yourself if it is engaging and if it would keep you interested and clicking different pages etc. If not, you’ve got some work to do!

Our SEO services in Vancouver include monthly Google Analytics reports and suggestions as to how you may be able to lower your bounce rate. Sometimes, it may boil down to a revamp of your website….other times, it just involves being creative. Contact our website marketing company today for a FREE website consultation as to how we can start driving more traffic your way!
