Millions of people have personal facebook accounts – but facebook can be used for so much more than just connecting with friends, posting vacation photos, or making plans for the weekend. It can be a very effective tool for your business too!

Here are 5 Tips for using Facebook for your Business as part of your Internet marketing strategy:

1. Complete all of the details in your business account profile – people perceive businesses as more credible and trustworthy if you have an address, phone number, contact information, etc.

2. Post professional business photos – not ones you took for your last trip to Mexico or your latest weekend adventure. Photos of team building activities and corporate events are great though, and can even be good for public relations if your event involved doing something to help the community or a charity.

3. Add a facebook icon to your website that links directly to your business page. You can also add a link to your email signature.

4. Post “What’s Happening” on your facebook wall including current projects and/or partnerships

5. Offer discounts to your facebook fans – reward them with exclusive offers!

At Web Warrior Marketing, we will help you get your business set-up on facebook as part of our website marketing packages. Contact us for a FREE website consultation today as to how we can increase your online visibility!

Does your company have a Twitter page…only it doesn’t get updated very often? Twitter is all about posting Tweets on a regular basis – if you are active and presenting interesting information, you will get more followers and your time will be put to good use.

Here are 3 ways to keep your Twitter page FRESH and ACTIVE:

(1) HOLD CONTESTS—People love the chance to win things as we all know! Your contest could be for a product or service. Get people to Tweet the details of the contest each day to be eligible to win…which has the potential to create a ton of buzz about your company!

(2) PROMOTE SALES – People love to get a good bargain and if you are offering one, they are likely to choose you over one of your competitors! If you have an online store, Tweet the discount PROMO CODE that people would have to enter on your website when checking out to get the discount.

(3) ANNOUNCE SPECIAL EVENTS – is your company doing something special in the community? Tweet about it! This can also get you some good PR along the way. Is your company having a grand opening for a new location? Tell people about it – get them excited to be one of your first customers!

If your company has opened a Twitter account, it is a great idea to have at least one person who is responsible for ensuring that it is updated regularly with useful information which will encourage people to follow you. It doesn’t reflect well on your company if you tell people you are on Twitter, but then they go to your Twitter page and see that it has not been updated for six months. It would be better not to have a Twitter account at all if it is not going to be maintained.

If you have various departments within your company, this person can be the “go-to” person for when people have a message they want to announce – and – this person can also hold departments accountable for providing a certain number of “Tweets” per week.

If no actual guidelines or timelines are set in place, it is then easy for this type of thing to fall by the way-side…when it doesn’t really take much time at all if people are active participants. Plus, it can actually be something fun for employees to do as a team and strengthen relationships between co-workers. It is also a way for departments to boast about what they are doing and keep everyone in the company informed as to the launches of marketing campaigns, staff announcements, company news, etc. It is also a great way to keep partners and clients up-to-date and informed. People love to be kept “in the loop”…it is good for business and keeps your company “top of mind”.

And remember the 80/20 rule – provide your followers with information 80% of the time and only use it as a sales-pitch platform 20% of the time. You will see that people will become loyal followers and you will gain many more followers this way. No one wants to be bombarded with information about your company only. For example, if you are a dentist, don’t just use it to promote your teeth whitening…instead, give tips on dental health, brushing, flossing, brand recommendations, etc. Then also use it to post links for breaking news etc. Think outside the box!

Web Warrior helps our clients get set up on Twitter if they are not already (if they will be committed to updating it) because it is FREE and you can reach people who you normally wouldn’t be able to reach. Social networking is huge these days – don’t be left in the dark. And if it doesn’t stick, well, nothing lost – the only way you would lose is if you never tried it out in the first place.

If you still carry around a Walkman instead of an iPod, or a cell phone that resembles a brick, chances are you are not familiar with Twitter…and you probably don’t want to be. We’ll briefly explain it to you anyways – it is a free social networking and micro-blogging service where users send and read messages known as “Tweets”. These “Tweets” are posted to the profile page of the person “Tweeting”. Everyone gets a feed of the Tweets of the people they are following. Confused yet? Check it out…you may just get hooked!

That said, it is almost impossible to go through a whole day and not hear/read something about Twitter at least once – whether it be on TV, on the radio, in the news, or in a magazine. It is huge among celebrities and it is a great avenue for businesses to self-promote, network, and literally connect with people they would never have opportunity to connect with otherwise.

Business owners should definitely take advantage of this FREE service…in a world centered around technology, it is beneficial to keep up with the times – especially when your competitors probably are.

When posting Tweets, a great rule of thumb is to remember the 80/20 rule. Ask yourself – would you rather follow people who are constantly only talking about themselves and drowning you with their sales pitch…or would you be more interested in what they have to say if they focus primarily on tips and useful information related to their industry?

Focusing on good information or links to interesting articles will do you more good in the long run, grow your followers, and most importantly MAINTAIN them.

Try it out – you have nothing to lose. See you in Twitterland! Oh, and…don’t forget to follow us!
